Friday - Tiny Cabin Getaway
3:00 pm Getaway House: To start the adult birthday weekend, check into your Getaway House. It is located in Piney Woods which is 90 minutes away from Dallas.
Getaway House is a Brooklyn-based company that offers simple escapes to tiny cabins nestled in nature. They have cabins outside Atlanta, Dallas, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, Portland, Pittsburg, Cleveland and Washington, D.C.
The whole mission of Getaway's tiny cabin is to inspire you to “unplug from the daily hustle and to focus on yourselves, your relationships, and the wonder of nature.” Each tiny cabin for two has a comfortable queen bed with fresh linens and pillows. Cabins for four have two queen beds (one bed is lofted – think bunk bed style).
If you want to stay at Getaway House and save money use code TAYLORM25 at check out. It will give you $25 off. Use this link when booking. It is our referral code for Getaway House.
There are 4 tips you need to know before you book your tiny cabin. Check out 4 Tips for Glamping in a Tiny Cabin so that you are prepared.
Location: 9595 County Rd 4357 LaRue, TX 75770
Saturday - Dallas Staycation
8:00 am Breakfast: Make breakfast in your Getaway tiny cabin. Your cabin comes with a fully-functioning kitchen. There is a sink (with running, drinkable water), mini-fridge, stove, pans, pots, kettle, mugs, plates, and etc.
We use plant-based Beyond Meat sausage to make a breakfast bowl on the stove. When filmed some of it in our vlog. You can learn more about Beyond Meat products in this post.
9:00 am - 11:30 am Activity 1: Check out of the cabin and go on a hike at Wolfpen Hike and Bike Trail. The trail is 4.1 miles long and is 45 min drive away from the Getaway cabin grounds. This loop trail, which features a lake, is a great choice for all skill levels for hiking, walking, or trail running.
Pro Tip: There are restrooms and showers located next to the parking lot. The website Hiking Project says, “In the first .5 mile, you follow along the shore of the lake which offers several picturesque views. After you turn west, you remain in tree cover for the rest of the hike.”
Location: Wolfpen Hike and Bike Trail, Texas 75124
12:00 pm Departure: Head back to Dallas
2:00 pm Check-in to the Statler: Check into The Statler Hotel in Downtown Dallas. The Statler is a newly renovated hotel with retro decor.
The hotel has a rooftop lounge called Waterproof (highly recommend visiting to see the views), a breakfast shop called OverEasy, a Pan-Asian restaurant called Fine China and a speakeasy called Bourbon & Banter.
The rooms at this hotel are amazing. You can see our room in our vlog, but it has mounted smart HDTVs, complimentary WiFi, and Nespresso coffee makers. Our favorite feature was the smart curtains. They automatically opened and closed by pressing a button.
Huge shoutout to Empson USA for sending us wine for our staycation! Empson USA is a wine seller focused on creating relationships with boutique producers that emphasized excellence and value. We loved drinking this Fantini Gran Cuvee Rose Vino Spumante Brut shown in the picture above.
About the wine: It is pomegranate in color and has ripe notes of cherry fruit, raspberry, red currant and wild strawberries. The palate is fresh, flavorful and well-balanced.
Location: 1914 Commerce St, Dallas, Texas, 75201, USA
5:45pm Pre-dinner Drinks: For pre-dinner drinks head to Felix Culpa. It is a swanky, pop art-filled brick dining room. It is the most stylish cocktail lounge that we have ever been too. Literally. It is amazing.
For drinks, we recommend trying fly me to the moon and the grapefruit aperol spritzer. Since you are celebrating a birthday, order a shareable drink! We got the Bacardi Coco drink. It came in a Chanel container! Fyi, the drink was a little on the sweet side.
We did not order food but they do have a full-service tapas menu. We saw other tables ordering the truffle fries and roasted buffalo cauliflower. If you want to go here, be sure to make a reservation on Opentable.
Location: 3001 N Henderson Ave, Dallas, TX 75206
8:45 Dinner: Head to The Charles for a delicious Italian dinner. The Charles is a stylish, upscale restaurant in the Design District of Dallas.
We did not know this, but there is a champagne bar at the back of the restaurant. To check it out, get to The Charles before your reservation. Notify the host that you are there and head to the very back of the building (you have to walk outside). The bar, Bar Charles, has plush velvet seats and antique decor. It is super cute! The host will come to get you when your table is ready.
For food, we got vegan versions of the butter lettuce, crispy potatoes, charred broccoli, spicy crest di gallo, and pistachio lumache. We highly recommend this eatery for your birthday dinner. You can make reservations on Opentable.
Location: 1632 Market Center Blvd, Dallas, TX 75207
Sunday - Dallas Staycation
10:00am Brunch: Head to Up on Knox for a light brunch. This spot is known for its raw bar, caviar menu, and seafood, but we found vegan options.
Order the avocado toast or tuscan kale salad. Both options are light and easy on the stomach which is great because we celebrated the night before at Felix Culpa and The Charles.
Location: 3230 Knox St #140, Dallas, TX 75205
11:30am-4:00pm Activity 1 Free Time: We built-in free time so that you can take a nap, meet friends in Dallas or do whatever you want to do. During this time, we decided to get our nails done at Rose Couture Nail Bar. We have seen this place all over Instagram and was excited to try them out. Look how cute the flower wall looks!!
We got a gel manicure and pedicure. For me, the service was great. I had male nail technicians. I highly recommend that you request them to do your nails.
They were patient and paid attention to detail. My gel manicure lasted 3-4 weeks without chipping.
Pro Tip: This nail shop provides complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Call ahead and ask about the wait time and make a reservation. When you arrive check-in on the IPads at the front.
Location: 8061 Walnut Hill Ln #900, Dallas, TX 75231
7:00pm Dinner: Head to the 400 Gradi Dallas for a sophisticated Italian experience. 400 Gradi, translates to 400 degrees (celsius), the temperature a traditional, thin-crusted Neapolitan pizza is cooked (for only 90 seconds!). The original 400 Gradi is in Melbourne, Australia so we were excited to try the location that opened in Dallas.
This restaurant is super vegan-friendly. Our waiter was helpful and kind when it came to finding food that we could eat. To start, we got mixed olives and the burrata without the cheese. For mains, we ordered a vegan version of the spaghettini and pappardelle truffle pasta. You can also order a vegan version of the risotto.
The service alone is enough to make us go back. Oh yeah, and the food too.
Locations: 2000 Ross Ave #140, Dallas, TX 75201
9:00pm Night Cap: To end the night, check out Bourbon & Banter speakeasy at The Statler Hotel. It is a swanky underground lounge that was once a beauty salon at the historic Statler Hotel.
They are known for creative Bourbon cocktails! So we encourage to try a variety of different drinks.
Pro Tip: Make a reservation on Opentable. To get to the lounge, follow the signs in the hotel. You will have to go down a lot of stairs. Once you that you’ll find a small wood-paneled room that has a phone booth and a shoe-shine station. Bourbon and Banter is a speakeasy so there is a trick to get in. To enter, pick up the payphone and type in the code (hint: it is the address of the Statler “1914*). A door that leads to the lounge will open.
Location: 1914 Commerce St, Dallas, TX 75201
Monday - Taylor’s 27th Birthday
10:00am Activity 1: It’s my birthday!! For whatever reason, we wanted to go pole dancing because why not?! We booked a class at Altitude Fitness in Frisco. This studio specializes in Aerial and Pole fitness so you could always book an aerial yoga class if pole dancing isn’t your thing.
We booked the Level 1: Foundations pole dancing class. The description said, “New to pole fitness? This class is for YOU. This class is recommended for anyone that has never taken a pole fitness class before. We break down some essential pole techniques and focus on safety, strength and flexibility to get you ready to spin, climb and move around the pole gracefully and confidently. No dance experience required!”
Tips: The class was hard for us!!! You need to bring water and wear athletic shorts or spandex. Do not wear leggings. Long pants make climbing the pole more difficult. Each class is $20-25 per person.
Location: 8855 Preston Trace Blvd #300, Frisco, TX 75033
12:00pm Brunch: After your fitness class, head to Parigi! It is a long-standing bistro in Uptown Dallas. Their menu changes twice a month and sources most of their food from local farmers.
This location is vegan-friendly. We ordered the trio (pesto, sundried tomato tapenade and olives with a baguette), baked garlic and stuffed acorn squash.
Pro Tip: Call 214-521-0295 to make a reservation. We bought our own bottle of sparkling rose to celebrate so we recommend that you bring something too! The trio and baked garlic are TOO GOOD. Please try it.
Location: 3311 Oak Lawn Ave, Dallas, TX 75219
1:30-3:30 Activity 2: Shopping at West Village in Uptown.
Location: 3699 McKinney Ave, Dallas, TX 75204
8:00pm Dinner: Head to Fearing's for a nice birthday dinner. There are a few fancy restaurants in Dallas that offer vegan options. Luckily, Fearing's has a vegetarian menu with entrees that can be made vegan.
Fearing's is a Southwestern restaurant with a well-known bar in the luxe Ritz-Carlton. Since its opening in 2007, Fearing’s has been named “Restaurant of the Year” and “Table of the Year” byEsquire Magazine, and #1 in Hotel Dining in the U.S. by the Zagat Survey.
To start, we ordered the tortilla soup. This was hands down the best vegan soup we had...ever. It was packed with flavor. We would go back just for the soup. We also got the chili braised jackfruit street tacos and crispy two bite avocado tacos. The jackfruit tacos were okay, however, the avocado tacos were delicious.
For entrees, we ordered the vegan roasted vegetable/chickpea makhani curry
on saffron cented basmati rice with wood grilled garlic naan and coriander mint chutney. This dish was good, but we wished the curry had more sauce.
The service was FANTASTIC. We were treated like queens!!
